Album 1, Leaf 33

The large sheet pasted in the upper half of the leaf was evidently a counterproof made by pressing the blank (and slightly dampened) sheet of paper onto a freshly executed drawing. The black-chalk lines are comparably faint. Giovanni Battista Piranesi’s handwriting is clearly recognizable on the drawing with a sketch of three consoles pasted in at the bottom.
