Album 1, Leaf 31

With time, these drawings have all rubbed off onto the leaf opposite, after lying pressed against it in the album’s closed state. The adhesive from the glue spots has halted the discolouration of the album paper while the rest has visibly aged. In these spots the paper is closer to the whiteness it originally displayed in Piranesi’s day.
