Album 1, Leaf 16

The narrow but long frieze band in the lowest drawing of the three extends in length well beyond the size of the album that contains it. Because of this, it was folded at both ends and pasted in as a fold-out. Its motif stems from the Casa dei Crescenzi, an 11th-century building located near the Tiber whose brick structure was decorated with ancient ornaments. Today, the building is home to the Centro di Studi per la Storia dell’Architettura, the Centre for the History of Architecture.
