Die handgeschöpften Papiere der Albumblätter bestehen aus Hadern (pflanzliche Fasern, die aus Lumpen zurückgewonnen wurden) und haben sich im Laufe ihrer natürlichen Alterung braun verfärbt. Hergestellt wurden die Bögen in einer Papiermühle in Ettlingen bei Karlsruhe, die heute noch als Buhlsche Mühle bekannt ist. Einige tragen das Wasserzeichen des Mühlenbesitzers F. Buhl.
